Saenchai Jupor, the visionary farmer behind Saen Chai Estate, located in Ban Nong Chet Nuai (Kanlayaniwattana, Chiang Mai). Renowned for his innovative and diverse processing methods, Saenchai crafts award-winning specialty coffees with truly unique characteristics.

His agricultural philosophy is deeply rooted in nature. By cultivating coffee under the lush canopy of large trees, completely free of chemicals, and allowing the cherries to ripen slowly, he ensures only the absolute highest quality harvest.

The Pine Forest Terroir

Saen Chai Estate benefits from an extraordinary natural terroir. Nestled on a high plateau at 1,100–1,300 meters above sea level and surrounded by Asia's largest pine forest, the exceptionally cool and pristine climate elevates the coffee to a level that enthusiasts constantly seek out.

Always looking to the future, Saenchai is actively working to refine his coffee genetics, expand shade-grown cultivation, implement organic bio-compost, and continuously perfect his processing techniques.

Discovering a Hidden Legacy

Saenchai’s coffee journey began when he visited his wife’s village. Recognizing the incredible potential of the high-altitude pine forest, he consulted local elders and experts, including Patee Thongdee. Together, they uncovered a hidden treasure: heritage coffee varietals originally brought to the area by missionaries back in 1963.

"These historic trees were still scattered around the village. We tested them to see if the quality and taste were truly exceptional. The results were astounding—they possessed incredibly distinct characters. I knew we had to propagate them. In the past, villagers grew coffee but lacked the support to develop it further, which almost caused this local heritage to fade away completely." — Saenchai Jupor

Empowering a Skeptical Community

Saenchai places immense value on his network of local farmers. He leads by example, showing them the true worth of their labor and guiding them through the transition from chemical-dependent farming to sustainable, organic practices.

"I believe coffee tells its own story. Wherever it goes, its taste reveals its origins—grown without chemicals, nurtured under shade, unhurried, and breathing pure mountain air. At first, the villagers were skeptical; past failures made them doubt that coffee could sustain them. But now, seeing the tangible income, many families are returning to coffee farming. The passion is finally reawakening."
